law of effection

the universal law of business

If you have ever fallen into the spiral of self-help books, I’m sure you’ve read The Secret.

Law of attraction. The universal law of life. The power of positive thinking. The secret to the universe.

My first self-help book gifted by my dad. Read it and followed it—gotta say, it really changed the game.

Then as I ventured more into learning the business world,

I found there also existed, a universal law of business—

The Law of Effection.

Effect: The outcomes or results that arise from the thoughts and feelings that individuals project into the universe.

The Law of Attraction operates on the principle that positive or negative thoughts can manifest their corresponding positive or negative experiences in a person's life.

The Law of Effection, however, posits that the more lives you affect through an entity you control, in terms of scale and magnitude, the more successful you will become.

“The more lives you affect, the richer you will become.”

- MJ DeMarco, The Millionaire Fastlane

Highly recommend The Millionaire Fastlane btw, great read. Talks about how your success and riches depends on the vehicle you move in and the road you take.

The Law of Effection emphasizes the importance of creating value for others as a pathway to personal and financial success.

There are three key elements to this law:

  • Control: Ownership of the business or project allows you to dictate its direction and impact.

  • Scale: The ability to reach a large audience or customer base amplifies your influence.

  • Magnitude: The value or price of what you offer can significantly affect your success.

Think about real-world applications of this law through these elements.

  • Apple combines control, scale, and magnitude by selling high-end products to millions.

  • Supermarkets serve vast numbers of customers daily, illustrating the scale aspect.

  • Platforms like Khan Academy or Coursera have scaled educational offerings to millions, affecting learners worldwide through accessible and quality content.

Simply put,

if you wanna make millions, you need to impact millions.

The Law of Effection is not a theory; it’s based on solid mathematical numbers. If you do a million of anything, you’re bound to get rich.

But you gotta choose something that is actually worth it.

  1. Find a problem that affects millions of people and solve it.

The bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity.

Think of problems that cause pain, frustration, inconvenience, or dissatisfaction for a large number of people.

Then think of solutions that can eliminate or reduce those problems.

(For example, Uber solved the problem of finding a reliable and affordable ride by creating a platform that connects drivers and riders.)

  2. Deliver value in scale and/or magnitude.

To make millions, you need to deliver value to millions of people (scale) or deliver a large amount of value to a few people (magnitude). Ideally, you want to do both.

Scale means reaching more people with your product or service.

Magnitude means charging more for your product or service or increasing its perceived value.

(For example, Apple delivers value in scale and magnitude by selling millions of high-quality and high-priced products that create loyal customers.)

  3. Build trust and credibility with your audience.

To affect millions of people, you need to earn their trust and respect.

You also need to establish yourself as an authority and a leader in your field.

(For example, Oprah builds trust and credibility with her audience by sharing her personal stories, values, and opinions.)

This newsletter is me following the Law of Effection. By providing some kinda value to at least one of you, I get to benefit from the value as well. Monetary or not.

Maybe you wanted to start a podcast. Maybe a YouTube channel. You feel like you’ve got something to say, something that you think everyone should hear.

Or you just want to rant so you get it out of your system.

Just do it.

The world is your oyster.

Start now. Don’t matter if you think it’s ‘not good enough’.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Affect Effect millions.
